The Cinematheque Irma Vep Booklet

THE CINEMATHEQUE IRMA VEP BOOKLET PROJECT
Class project

Irma Vep is a 1996 film directed by Olivier Assayas and starring Maggie Cheung about a rapidly deteriorating film production that doubles as a commentary on the state of French cinema in the international stage, the perpetual struggle between art and business, and the medium of film itself in all its bizarre wonder.

For a class assignment, I've designed an imaginary booklet to promote its screening for The Cinematheque—a well-known film institute in Vancouver. Specifically, I wanted to capture the chaos and roughness that defines Irma Vep aesthetically, with visual elements directly inspired by the film.
Two different typographic systems were used to separate the two sections visually: one for Irma Vep and one for The Cinematheque's VIFF screenings. The VIFF section also used The Cinematheque's in-house design which can be seen in their newsletters and other promotional materials.
